painting: owl

Whoo’s That? 11″x14″

I love the owl’s gently amused expression. I kept the color palette simple to emphasize the contrast between the tree shadows and his lovely orange feathers. I painted from a reference photo graciously shared by Darlene Lussier. This one turned out lovely, and you would never guess the mental anguish I went through wondering if the colors were the correct choice, or if I was capturing the feathers, or the wood bark, effectively enough. A lot of times I push myself to labor through until the end, and am glad I did.

11″x14″ Oil on cradled wood board. Available in my Etsy shop. 😀
