This painting I literally had sketched for two years, waiting for me to complete it. I’ve got another one that’s been languishing a similar length of time–maybe this will be the year it gets completed. Some I start out excited about, but then as I look harder at the details, I start to think something about it is too complex, or not enough detail, or just too difficult to attempt. I don’t know why I lost interest in this one, other than other ones just seemed more compelling. Strike while the iron is hot, and paint the most successful paintings.
In the end, I am happy with the play of colors over that shoulder. If I had painted this two years ago, I don’t know how I would have handled it. Today, success!
